Summer Hair Go-To’s

I love that braids are in style right now.  Sometimes it’s great just to do something different, and sometimes it’s necessary because I am going out with my friends, a ponytail just won’t do, and my hair needs to be washed so wearing it down isn’t an option, either.  So, I throw it in some sort of braid (shhh!!! don’t tell….).

With summer coming up, I am looking forward to more hair experimentation.  Plus, I am too lazy to go get my hair cut anytime soon, and a lot of the styles right now necessitate long hair, so why the hell not?  Plus, there’s something about a maxi dress – they feel like they just really go so perfectly with wavy/braided/or otherwise saltwater/wind/chlorine-blasted hot humid messy summer hair.  Orrrrr maybe I have been looking at too many Free People catalogs. I dunno. Even if you don’t know how to do one of the many styles, there are a ton of hair tutorials online – both photo tutorials and video tutorials.

And by the way …. Free People not only has great clothes and catalog styling, but I just discovered last night that they also have a blog that’s really awesome.  It has lots of of DIY projects relating to many of their catalog sets, hair how-to’s, etc.  One of their most popular styles the past year or so has been the fishtail braid. I really love how this look. I also found fishtail-related posts here and here, and a really easy how-to video here.

I just discovered this one – I have not tried it yet but it looks really cool. I found it on the Love, Maegan blog.  She does it on her hair straight, while the photo below shows it wavy.  I love it both ways and I am not sure which I will try first.  The Love, Maegan blog also has lots of other hair tutorials as well – which you can access here.

Spring Fashion Wish List.

Happy spring!! It couldn’t come soon enough. As much as I love winter, by March I am ready to move on. I haven’t been around for awhile! My spring break (i.e. work still, but no night class for a week) flew by, and somehow I had even less time for my blog than I normally do. I had a good couple of weekends as far as shopping is concerned – my boyfriend’s parents are coming in town next weekend so we are preparing for that. Unfortunately I cannot find my camera (I know I saw it around here somewhere…) but as soon as I find it, I will have to share some of my new things.

Spring is always tricky for me – Winter is predictably cold and necessitates sweaters and coats on a constant basis, while summer is pretty obvious as well. Spring? I never know what to expect in terms of the weather, so layers are key. It also rains a LOT here (especially in May), so I won’t be putting the Hunter boots away any time soon. I have a few things on my Spring “wish list” – styles I hope to wear at least once (if not more) in the next few months as the weather changes….

Do you have style “goals” for each coming season?

BALLET-INSPIRED FASHION: BALLET NECK TOPS & WRAP SWEATERS

I think I enjoyed my ballet warm-ups as much as if not more than my ballet costumes. I had so many cozy knit sweaters and tops that I would wear to ballet class.  Ballet warm-ups are meant to accentuate the shape so it’s only natural that the style of collar bone-baring boat neck tops and waist-accentuating wrap sweaters would become popular in mainstream fashion. I have a wrap sweater I got from H&M in 2003.  I held tight to my wrap sweater addiction even through the past few years where they, for a time, were nowhere to be found.  No other sweater style is as flattering!  I am happy to see that they have returned.
